Mindfulness is a way of living. It is a systematic approach to cultivate awareness by paying attention on purpose, in the present moment and non-judgmentally.

Jon Kabat-Zinn, developed the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in 1979. Scientific research has shown that MBSR was effective in patients with chronic pain, anxiety disorders, depression, eating disorders, fibromyalgia, psoriasis and cancer. Most participants experience long-lasting improvements in both physical and psychological symptoms as well as major positive changes in health attitudes and behaviors and perception of self.

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) combines modern cognitive therapy techniques with ancient meditation practices to introduce skills for people to deal with physical and psychological problems. John Teasdale, Zindel Segal and Mark Williams adapted the MBSR programme to form the MBCT programme so it could be used especially for people who had suffered repeated bouts of depression in their lives.

Dr. Emma Wong received MBSR, MBCT and mindfulness related training from Jon Kabat-Zinn, Mark Williams and Helen Ma. She has also conducted MBSR in Hong Kong. Dr. Wong currently offers MBCT classes and Mindfulness-based psychological services in Cantonese and Mandarin.
